Leo Nocentelli is an New Orleans musician and songwriter best known as a founding member and lead guitarist of the funk band The Meters. It was not long after The Meters received their Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award that Leo invited me over to his home to snap some reference photos to use for his portrait. He graciously showed me around his home and I even got to hold his Grammy award! We went out back and I asked him to sit in front of a bare wall not sure of what exactly I was going to do with his portrait. I noticed his tattoo when I got a chance to look through the photos and after our conversation I thought that a "mural" behind him would be perfect. This is my portrait of Leo Nocentelli.
