Ripples of Funk
Here’s my acrylic on canvas portrait of: Art Neville was a staple of the New Orleans music scene for over five decades. He was the founder of not one but TWO incredibly important and influential bands. 1. The Meters who were one of the creators of FUNK music and their music happens to be among the most sampled music in hip hop. 2. He’s a co-founder of The Neville Brothers, and he later formed the spinoff group The Funky Meters. He also performed on many recordings by notable artists from New Orleans and elsewhere, here’s a few Labelle (on “Lady Marmalade”), Paul McCartney, Lee Dorsey, Robert Palmer, Dr. John and Professor Longhair. Sometimes I think that we all forget just how incredibly important and influential he was and continues to be. Here’s my tribute/portrait “Ripples of Funk” acrylic on canvas of Art Neville or Papa Funk. His Fiyo on the Bayou ripples out into the universe and continues to do so. This portrait is framed and has handset inlaid crystals o extend the stars beyond the canvas. This is one of a kind just like Papa Funk.
